I'm winter weary but I love this picture

I'm always looking for ways to boost my metabolism.  I found this article on apple cider vinegar and it has a couple of recipes. I never thought to put the ACV on sweet potato chips. I made them and they were delish.  I make my own sweet potato chips often and this is a good way to get more ACV in my diet.

Another great way to get the metabolism going is to drink Matcha green tea.  It has so many health benefits and tastes great. I like putting it in smoothies too.  I wrote  a review for Matcha DNA Green Tea on my other blog The Elements of Review. You can read the review here.

Featured workout DVDKathy Smith Weight Loss Workout DVD was one of the first workout videos I ever bought back in the early 1990s. It has cardio and strength. The workout is broken into sections. You can do them all or just a few. I liked this workout VHS tape so much I bought it on DVD. It’s great for beginners and if you want to make it more advanced you can use heavier dumbbells.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil Review

Peri-menopause has wreaked havoc on my skin and  I've been suffering with acne for the past year.  I've tried many skin care products to get rid of the acne. I've had some success, but it has left some scars.

While in the store looking at the dozens of products available I saw Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil. What grabbed my attention is that it contains some  of my essential oils including coconut, rosehip,  It also includes the following oils sesame, sweet almond, macadamia nut, apricot, grapeseed, argan, camelina, sunflower  and Vitamins C and E and Retinol.

I used it in the evenings after washing my face. Even though it contains many oils it's not greasy and blends in easily. The rosehip scent is heavenly. Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil was created to approve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Also to reduce acne scars and even out skin tone.

So how did it do?! Below are my before and after pictures. I've been using it for about two weeks. Some of the dark spots have disappeared.  The oil does keep my very dry skin moisturized and it hasn't caused any breakouts. I have less breakouts after using it for two weeks.

Worth It Wednesday: Coconut Oil and Meditation

Dreaming of spring

A typical day for me is running errands. Then coming home and have breakfast. While eating breakfast I’m reading anything and everything I can get my hands on about social media marketing, because I hope to make that my career. Then I work out, do laundry, take a quick bath, clean the house and then it’s time to pick up the kids. Sometimes I’m able to fit my daily meditation in there. Most of the time I do it before the kids wake up or in the evening. My day flies by.  I don’t really get to pamper myself.  So today, on Worth It Wednesday I’m going to slow it down.

I’m taking time to do something special for myself because I’m worth it. I’m washing my hair and then applying this DIY coconut oil and honey hair mask from The Everygirl. While it’s on my hair I will do my daily Do You Yoga Meditation and then follow it up with this meditation I found on Youtube How To Gain Confidence: Guided Confidence Building Meditation (see below). I’m taking time out of my day to have a longer meditation.  By the time I’m done meditating it will be time to wash out the mask.

This Week in Beauty, Fitness & Health: February 16-20, 2015

This week went by very quickly. I'm tired of winter. Can we have spring now?! I attended a great interactive webinar by the Go Fit Gals. The webinar was about Fitness and Menopause. Lots of useful information in this webinar. You can view it below:

Speaking of menopause, I'm in peri-menopause right now and I'm all about getting rid of my belly. There was an article this week about burning more belly fat while on a run.  Of course they mention intervals. That's really the only way I do cardio now.  It's either HIIT or Tabata for me. Read the article here to find more tips.

I'm not the only one using serums now. Serums seem to be all the rage in skin care. This article Does Your Skin Need A Serum? lists some of the best serums, the benefits and how to use them. I'm using a product from Palmer's right now that I really like. It has Retinol, Vitamin E and Vitamin C.

I started a detox this week. I found this detox on Jovanka Ciares Facebook page. It's a 3 day winter detox. I thought I would give it a try. The first day went great. The next morning I could barely function. After I took the kids to school, I basically just stayed on the couch for several hours. I was nauseous, my eyes were watery and my head felt like it was going to explode.

The only detox I have completed successfully was the Go Fit Gals 3 Day Reset  I would feel great the first day. Second day in the morning I would feel like I had the flu, but by the afternoon I would feel fine.  Check out the results from when I completed the 3 Day Reset for the first time here. That didn't happen with the Jovanka Ciares detox.  So in order to be able to get off the couch and pick up the kids from school, I had to cut it short. I felt bad about not completing it, but I didn't expect my body to react in that way.

I did notice some good things after the detox. My belly was flatter and I didn't have any bloating.

Another week where I didn't work out as much as I would have liked.  I did work out tho;-)  I did a couple of the workouts from the Belly Burn Challenge and continued with the Meditation Challenge. Here are my top 3 workouts this week:

Recipe of the week is from Jovanka Ciares. It's a Turmeric Drink. Great for these cold evenings. It has anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.   It's also delicious. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It also satisfied my sweet tooth or teeth;-) You can find the recipe here.  I added a couple more dates than the recipe called for because the ones I had were kind of small and I added some vanilla.

Are You Worth It?!

I didn’t get chosen for a project I really wanted to participate in.  This project was a perfect fit and would have taken me to the next level.  I've been down on myself about it for a couple of days. I ate a stack of pancakes on Fat Tuesday to drown my sorrows. Then I realized, just because they can’t see your worthiness doesn’t mean you are not worthy.  You ARE worth it and don’t let anyone else tell you something else.

This is not just for me, but for anyone else struggling right now.  It could be with finances, weight, relationships, trying to find a job. I know how it feels to send out a ton of resumes and only hear crickets. Sometimes I see tumbleweeds roll by. You may want to give up right now, but please don’t.  I know this is the time of year many start to give up on their resolutions. Believe me, I’ve been there. If something isn’t working then try to find another way to reach that goal.

During the winter months the lack of sunshine can affect your biological clock and that can lead to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). I took a break from writing this post yesterday to do my daily meditation. When I saw the title of the meditation I nearly dropped the tablet. The title is Know Your Worth. I have included the meditation in this post. 

I’m going to make sure that every Wednesday I will make that day special for me because I’m worth it. We are always taking care of others. Sometimes we neglect ourselves. What will you do to make your Worth It Wednesday special?! It could be anything from getting a massage, having a glass of wine. cooking your favorite meal or just taking some extra time to read a couple more chapters of a good book.

This Week In Beauty, Fitness & Health: February 9-13, 2015

Cold Toronto

It has been very cold here in Toronto. It's making me miss Vancouver...well the mild winters. I was sick for much of the week. Glad the kids have a four day weekend, so I can rest and get better.  

I did read a few good articles. My favorite was the 25 Ways Apple Cider Vinegar Will Change Your Life.  ACV is something I need to keep on hand all of the time. It can be used for household chores, weight loss, skin care, you name it!  Check out this morning drink from the The Crunchy Moose. I tried it and it doesn't taste too bad. It's the perfect drink to start your day off right!

I've been focusing on my eyes quite a bit lately.  I don't have many wrinkles on my face, but my eyes are starting to show their age. Allure posted an article Eye Creams Our Editors Swear By. This is something I need to invest in sooner than later.  Also I don’t usually wear makeup unless I’m going out.  This article from Allure 5 Genius Makeup Tricks For Glasses-Wearers is great. I will make use of my eyelash curler that has been collecting dust in my drawer. Stat!

Recipe of the week: This week I have two. First it’s the Go Fit Gals Clean Eating Salad. The second is Twice-Baked Spaghetti Squash from Kalyn's Kitchen.  Now this is a clean eating meal! Perfect for date night!

This is where I usually put my 3 favorite workouts for the week. Because I was sick, I didn’t work out.  I did continue with the Do You Yoga Meditation Challenge. I look forward to those 10 minutes every day!
